Deeper Understanding to Photography (Camera settings) - Risha Riyansha 😎
Deeper understanding
Camera settings plays a role in several factors, from the blur in a photograph to the color. Mastering photography camera settings is fundamental to beginner photographers to help them sharpen their photography skills.
Here are a few basic camera settings:
- Aperture
- Shutter speed
- IOS
- Exposure
What is aperture?
The aperture is the opening of the camera lens, which affects the amount of light that passes through the lens to the senor. For this reason, this camera setting has a direct impact on
The maximum and minimum aperture is determined by a number popularly known as F-stop value, which follows a sequence like this (The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and vice versa): 1. Aperture setting on camera
What is a F-stop value?
The “f” in f-stop stands for the focal length of the lens. f-stop is about how much light you allow to hit the sensor via the aperture opening.Below is the guide on how to operate a aperture

What is shutter speed?
In photography, shutter speed or exposure time is the length of time that the film or digital sensor inside the camera is exposed to light when taking a photograph. The amount of light that reaches the film or image sensor is proportional to the exposure time.
The link below gives us great examples and explanations about shutter speed
A famous photographer once said and I quote - Jeff Carlson says “If you have a faster shutter speed, it’s going to open and close quickly and get that slice of whatever’s happening.”“ Then there’s the instance where you want a really slow shutter speed that opens the aperture to let in more light,” Carlson says. “You can use slow shutter speed in a dimmer environment when you need more light to expose a shot correctly.”
What is IOS?
ISO controls the amount of light your camera lets in, and therefore how dark or light your photos will be.
When it’s dark out, or if you’re shooting indoors with dim lighting, you’ll need a high ISO. If movement is involved, you’ll want to pair that high ISO with a fast shutter speed as well.
What is exposure?
Exposure is the amount of light that reaches your camera's sensor, creating visual data over a period of time.
What is exposure in photography?
Exposure is one of the most important aspects of photography. It can be difficult to understand, but it’s crucial that photographers learn how to use exposure properly in order to create well-exposed photos
Too much light will result in a photo that is too bright, while too little light will make your photo appear dark.
In conclusion
All three of these elements work together to determine exposure. If one of them is changed, the other two will also be affected. For example, if you want to make your photo brighter, you can either open up your aperture or slow down your shutter speed. Or, if you want to make your photo darker, you can close your aperture or speed up your shutter speed. It’s up to you to experiment and find the perfect exposure for each photo.
wow! this makes so much sense now. thankyou!!
